AWARD NOTIFICATION
A Notice of Grant Award (NGA) is a generic name for any of the various documents that sponsors send to notify the University formally of the terms and conditions of an award. NGAs are issued for both new grants and continuations.
The NGA is typically received in SPA, although on occasion a PI may be notified directly. The NGA often requires the signature of an authorized University official. In the case of NIH and NSF awards, acceptance of the award is indicated when SPF draws down funds from the respective federal payment management system.
Should you receive an NGA directly, it should be forwarded to SPA for either signature and/or processing.
Federal NGAs relating to clinical trials are received directly by the CTO and then given to SPA when a signature is required.
The CTO processes these awards and issues an account number directly. Should you receive an NGA relating to a clinical trial, it should be forwarded to the CTO for processing.
A typical NGA includes:
Application/grant identification number ("grant number")
Name of the PI
Approved project period and budget period start and end dates
Amount of funds authorized for obligation by the grantee
Amount of anticipated future-year commitments (if applicable)
Names of the sponsor's contacts, which typically includes a Program Official for scientific concerns and a Grants Management Officer or Specialist for policy and administrative concerns.
Applicable terms and conditions of award, either by reference or inclusion.
Special terms and conditions
If applicable, reference to the program announcement, or program solicitation's special requirements
